green and brown

A poem I wrote for my friend Lara Keys when she lost her green pen on the evening of the autumnal equinox:

summer has reached its end
the leaves all fade to brown
will green return again
to take away your frown?
fear not my dear, sweet friend
though green is not around
for brown will also end
and green once more abound!
